About Me

I am an Environmental Engineering PhD candidate at the University of California, Berkeley. My advisor is Dr. Evan Variano and I am part of the Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology research group. My work examines greenhouse gas emissions from wetlands. You can read an interview about my most recent fieldwork in British Columbia, Canada here.

Outside of research, I work part-time as a Content Editor for GiveWell, a non-profit that recommends and directs hundreds of millions of dollars to high-impact global health charities. I am also involved with the Science Policy Group at Berkeley and used to be a crisis hotline counselor at Crisis Support Services of Alameda County. In my free-time, I enjoy reading, running long distances, mindfulness meditation, and bird watching. (I’ve befriended a couple of crows in my neighborhood!)

Helpful note: You can call me either Kim or Kimberly. My last name is pronounced "HWIN".
